Toy manufacturing giant Mattel has completed the acquisition of Sproutling, a maker of smart technology products and smart monitors for parents and families.
Sproutling, with offices in San Francisco, will keep developing and launching products under the bespoke brand. Additionally, the company will collaborate on design and development of new products for the Mattel range of brands, based on Sproutling's technology platform.
Mattel global head of strategic development and M&A, Sid Mathur, said: “These acquisitions strengthen our digital and smart technology capabilities, and they create ample opportunities to develop and bring to market new technology-enabled play and learning products, based on Mattel’s established portfolio of global consumer brands for children and families.”
The company has also acquired all the assets of Fuhu, a developer of high technology products for children and families. Fuhu, known for its nabi brand of products, possesses technologies that facilitate innovative learning systems and trans-media entertainment solutions that enable content creators to publish and distribute premium content across several channels and platforms.
Mathur added: “Along with their teams, both Fuhu and Sproutling bring technology platforms to Mattel. Combined with Mattel's strengths in manufacturing, distribution and brand development, the addition of Fuhu and Sproutling to the Mattel family of companies creates new ways to bring families the best toys and baby products."
