Wearable tech among hottest IBM Watson trends during holiday season

Wearable technology is among the hottest retail trends for the holiday season, according to the latest data from IBM.
IBM has launched the Watson Trend app, currently available on the App Store, in order to help shoppers gain insight on the top trends during the holiday season while also helping them forecast the most-wanted products before they are out of stock. Wearable technology features among the top trends across three categories – consumer electronics, toys and health and fitness, as of November 18.
Gamers and movie lovers possess the strongest demand for wearable accessories, IBM notes. Minecraft fans have expressed excitement over the new Gameband, which allows people to play on any device and anywhere. Additionally, the Oculus Rift virtual reality wearable has generated excitement among movie lovers as they look to enjoy movies that are optimized for viewing on the wearable.
Meanwhile, IBM projects that mobile traffic will outstrip PC traffic for the first time during this holiday season. Over the five-day holiday period, mobile traffic is expected to increase by nearly 57%, up 17% over 2014. Mobile sales are predicted to increase by more than 36%, up 34% over 2014. The Watson Trend app utilises natural language and machine learning technologies in order to facilitate predictive analysis.
